Former BBNaija star Queen Mercy Atang has sparked fresh global attention after Guinness World Records reacted to her now-viral bread-inspired outfit at the 12th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards.

According to Punch Newspaper, the former Big Brother Naija star drew attention after appearing at the Lagos event in an outfit designed to resemble loaves of bread, a nod to her bakery business. The look quickly spread across social media and triggered widespread debate among fashion watchers.

The conversation intensified when Guinness World Records commented under her Instagram video, writing: “Well, we do have a record for the largest cake dress … hmmm.” The remark prompted speculation that her unconventional fashion statement could inspire an official record attempt.

Responding publicly, Atang acknowledged the comment, writing that she had seen Guinness World Records in her comment section, further fuelling online discussions around the outfit.

Guinness World Records currently lists the largest wearable cake dress as a 131.15kg creation achieved by Natasha Coline Kim Fah Lee Fokas of SweetyCakes GmbH in Bern, Switzerland, in January 2023.

Atang said the bread-themed costume was designed to reflect her entrepreneurial journey, describing herself as someone who “runs a bread empire”. She later suggested that AMVCA organisers introduce a dedicated entrepreneurs’ showcase to celebrate Nigerian brands and business creativity.

In an open appeal to MultiChoice Group and Africa Magic, she proposed an “AMVCA Nigerian Entrepreneurs Night” as a pre-award event.

The costume has since inspired several online recreations, including AI-generated brand-themed designs by Nigerian entrepreneurs, while branding experts say the move successfully turned a red-carpet appearance into global publicity for her business.

Tinubu, Kagame revive joint commission to boost Nigeria–Rwanda ties

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and President Paul Kagame have agreed to strengthen Nigeria–Rwanda cooperation through renewed diplomatic and economic engagement, according to a report by Channels Television.   The two leaders reached the agreement during a meeting at the Urugwiro Presidential Villa in Kigali, where President Tinubu arrived for the Africa CEO Forum. Discussions focused on activating mechanisms to deepen bilateral relations and reviving the Joint Permanent Ministerial Commission (JPMC), originally signed in 2021.   Both presidents agreed that the JPMC should be reactivated as a key platform for advancing shared priorities. They also agreed that Nigeria should host the next meeting of the commission.   On consular matters, President Tinubu indicated that Nigeria would consider reciprocating Rwanda’s 30-day visa-free policy for Nigerians, in line with broader Pan-African integration goals.   The leaders also reviewed pending Memoranda of Understanding covering tourism, illicit drugs, and anti-corruption cooperation. They reaffirmed support for the African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA), with both sides exploring ways to improve trade execution between the two countries.   According to Channels Television, discussions also included expanding air cargo connectivity, with Nigeria in talks with RwandAir to support export opportunities for Nigerian businesses. This follows Nigeria’s earlier establishment of a cargo corridor with Uganda Airlines aimed at improving regional trade flows.   The Africa CEO Forum, where the discussions took place, is expected to further strengthen investment and trade partnerships across the continent.
