Gunmen have reportedly killed eight soldiers, including a lieutenant, during an ambush in Kaduna State, according to a counter-insurgency publication, Zagazola Makama.
The attack is said to have occurred on Monday along communities near the Kaduna River, between Chikun and Igabi local government areas. The troops were reportedly on a rescue mission following an earlier attack and abduction when they came under fire.
Military authorities had not issued an official statement at the time of publication, but TheCable confirmed it had contacted the Nigerian Army for comment.
The development comes amid renewed concerns over rising insecurity in north-western Nigeria, where bandit attacks have continued despite ongoing military operations. Similar assaults in recent years have resulted in casualties among both civilians and security personnel, underscoring persistent operational challenges in the region.
The Nigerian Army has previously described such incidents as coordinated attacks targeting military positions and patrols.
