An early morning fire has damaged part of a Justrite Superstore in the Akowonjo area of Lagos State, affecting the store’s electronics section on the second floor.
According to Channels Television, the fire broke out at the commercial building near Jimoh Bus Stop in Egbeda-Akowonjo on Thursday. The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service responded swiftly and successfully contained the blaze before it spread to other parts of the building.
The agency’s Director, Margaret Adeseye, said firefighters immediately deployed equipment to control the fire, protect adjoining sections of the building, and safeguard lives and property.
She confirmed that the fire had been extinguished and that recovery and mop-up operations were ongoing.
Preliminary findings suggest the fire may have originated from an alternative power source, believed to be a solar inverter system. However, investigations are continuing to determine the exact cause.
No casualties were recorded in the incident.
Videos shared by the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service and circulated on social media showed thick smoke billowing from the rooftop of the building as emergency responders battled the blaze.
The latest incident comes just days after a fire destroyed 17 shops at a Lagos market, raising fresh concerns over fire safety in commercial buildings across the state.
