The Nigerian Army has declared one of its personnel, Private Mohammed Yusuf Amutu, wanted over allegations that he illegally sold and supplied military uniforms to terrorists and other criminal elements.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the Headquarters Nigerian Army Ordnance Corps said preliminary investigations linked the soldier to the alleged activities after he absconded from his unit. The statement was signed by the Assistant Director of Army Public Relations at the Headquarters Nigerian Army Ordnance Corps, Major Oluwatope Aluko.
According to the Army, Amutu, who was serving at the Nigerian Army Ordnance Kits Factory, deserted his duty post on June 3, 2026.
The military said he has since been declared wanted by the appropriate authorities, while efforts are ongoing to locate and arrest him for a full investigation and possible disciplinary action in line with military laws.
The Nigerian Army Ordnance Corps reiterated its zero-tolerance policy on misconduct, indiscipline and any act capable of undermining the operational effectiveness, integrity and reputation of the Army or threatening national security.
It warned that any personnel found aiding terrorists, criminals or other non-state actors through the unauthorised sale, diversion or distribution of military uniforms, accoutrements or other controlled items would face the full weight of military and civil laws.
The Corps appealed to members of the public to provide credible information that could lead to the arrest of the wanted soldier by reporting to the nearest military formation or any security agency.
It also reaffirmed its commitment to accountability, professionalism and the protection of military assets, pledging to strengthen internal control measures and ensure all allegations of misconduct are thoroughly investigated and offenders held accountable.
