Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has banned all activities of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in motor parks across the state and directed security agencies to arrest anyone who defies the order.
The directive was issued on Thursday following a meeting of the State Security Council, according to a statement by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi.
Governor Adeleke said the move is aimed at restoring order in motor parks and halting the collection of levies by the union.
“The Governor has directed the Police and other security agencies to immediately stop all activities of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in motor parks across Osun State. This order is intended to end the collection of all levies in the parks,” the statement said.
The governor further instructed the police and other security agencies not to shut down the parks but to prevent anyone from operating under the banner of the NURTW.
He warned that anyone found violating the directive should be arrested and prosecuted for disturbing public peace.
The development comes shortly after the police confirmed the killing of a member of the NURTW in Osun, amid concerns over security and activities within the state’s motor parks.
