The Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Publicity, Temitope Ajayi, has backed All Progressives Congress governorship candidate Bola Oyebamiji ahead of the August 15 Osun State election.
Ajayi said the state needs a chief executive capable of managing its finances and development rather than an “entertainer” or “permanent opposition politician”.
His comments followed a town hall meeting organised by Arise TV involving the leading candidates in the election.
According to Ajayi, Oyebamiji made the strongest case during the event by demonstrating his understanding of public finance, government management and the economic challenges facing Osun.
Oyebamiji, a former Commissioner for Finance under ex-governors Rauf Aregbesola and Gboyega Oyetola, also highlighted his experience in banking and his tenure at Osun State Investment Holdings.
Ajayi said the APC candidate presented himself as someone with practical experience managing public resources rather than simply making political promises.
He also praised Oyebamiji’s emphasis on fiscal responsibility, arguing that Osun voters should assess candidates based on their records, policies, financial plans and managerial capacity.
Ajayi criticises Adeleke, Salam
The presidential aide also criticised incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke’s performance at the town hall, saying the governor focused considerably on attacking former governors Olagunsoye Oyinlola and Gboyega Oyetola.
Ajayi described Adeleke’s presentation as “forceful and combative” but argued that attacks on predecessors should not replace an account of his administration’s achievements as he seeks a second term.
He also questioned the funding behind some of the promises made by African Democratic Congress candidate Najeem Salam.
According to Ajayi, Salam’s proposals for free services and wider government intervention sounded attractive but did not sufficiently explain how the programmes would be financed.
The Osun governorship election is scheduled for August 15, 2026, with Adeleke, Oyebamiji and Salam among the candidates seeking to lead the state.
