Oyo State Governor and Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM) presidential candidate, Seyi Makinde, has expressed confidence that the party will secure victory in the 2027 general elections after receiving thousands of defectors from the All Progressives Congress (APC).   Makinde spoke on Monday at the Boye Nation/JAF Movement Mega Concert held at the Open Tennis Court of the Lekan Salami Sports Complex, Adamasingba, Ibadan. The defectors were led by Ajiboye Sangogade, popularly known as Boye Nation, a personal assistant and loyalist of former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu. They were drawn from several local government areas across Oyo State. Receiving the new members, Makinde said their defection reflected growing support for the APM and expressed confidence that the party would win across the board in 2027. The governor also addressed the APC governorship candidate in Oyo State, Sharafadeen Alli, urging him to focus on the APM governorship candidate, Bimbo Adekanmbi, rather than criticising his administration. Makinde also revisited his criticism of Alli’s legal career, contrasting his own engineering credentials with Adekanmbi’s accounting qualifications. On criticism over the use of diesel-powered generators for some streetlights in Oyo State, Makinde linked the situation to Nigeria’s wider electricity supply challenges. He argued that the generators would not have been necessary if the Federal Government had resolved the country’s power problems. The event, themed “Young, United, Unstoppable (YUU),” also featured performances by Fuji artistes and was attended by government officials, lawmakers, APM leaders and candidates. The development comes as political parties intensify preparations for the 2027 general elections. Makinde is seeking the presidency on the APM platform, while Adekanmbi is the party’s governorship candidate in Oyo State.
