Borno State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Sainna Buba, has threatened that people who refuse to support the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general election will be flogged.
Buba made the statement in a video circulating online from a campaign inauguration organised by the Tinubu City Boy Movement, a political support group backing President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid.
The commissioner said political persuasion was currently being used but suggested that force could follow if opponents continued to criticise the administration.
He said those who supported the APC would benefit from the government, while warning those who refused to back the party.
The comments come amid heightened political activity ahead of the 2027 general elections and growing scrutiny of statements made by political actors.
The PUNCH also reported a separate controversy involving Kuje Area Council Chairman, Samuel Shekwolo, who was captured in a video warning residents who did not support the APC to leave the council ahead of the 2027 elections.
Shekwolo attributed his position to what he described as developmental efforts by the Tinubu administration and FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.
The latest remarks have renewed attention on inflammatory political rhetoric and concerns over threats that could undermine citizens’ freedom to support parties of their choice.
