Hardship Protest: Momodu blasts govt over show of force amid insecurity

Nigerian publisher and activist Dele Momodu has called out the government’s show of force in response to planned protests, contrasting it with the ongoing security challenges facing the nation.

In a statement on Thursday via X, Momodu stated, “So Nigerian government can mobilise this kind of force and military hardware, yet bandits and kidnappers are on rampage everywhere.”

The activist’s comments come as authorities have deployed significant security personnel and equipment in anticipation of #EndBadGovernance demonstrations which commenced today. Momodu’s comment follows a video showing many police officers at a yet-to-be-identified location.

Meanwhile, newsmen has reported that the demonstrations have begun in Abuja and Lagos, among others.

Posting further, Momodu stated, “The good news is this government has already acknowledged and guaranteed the success of the protests inadvertently.”

Nasir El-Rufai has been granted bail in the sum of N100 million by the Federal High Court in Abuja, as legal proceedings against the former governor continue. The court also directed El-Rufai to surrender all valid international passports and to report monthly to the Department of State Services headquarters every last Friday at 10am to sign an attendance register pending the conclusion of the trial. In a further condition, the former governor must submit a letter of attestation from the Kaduna Traditional Council. Justice Abdulmalik warned that any breach of the bail terms would lead to automatic revocation. The Nation reported that the matter has drawn heightened attention following earlier proceedings involving allegations linked to the interception of conversations involving Nuhu Ribadu.
