Akpabio elected Senate President

Senator Godswill Akpabio has been elected the President of the 10th Senate.

Akpabio was elected on the floor of the Senate after its inauguration.

He emerged winner to beat his contender, Senator Abdulaziz Yari, both members of the All Progressives Congress.

The former Governor of Akwa Ibom has subsequently been sworn in. The election was carried out in a secret ballot system, where Senators were called out according to their states to cast their votes.

Similarly, Senator Jibrin Barau has emerged as Deputy Senate President and has been sworn in.

Meanwhile, the same process is ongoing at the House of Representatives, where the Speaker and the Deputy Speaker of the House are yet to be announced. The open ballot system was adopted.
