Katsina govt approves N20m each for LGAs to renovate graveyards

The Katsina State Government has approved the sum of N20 million for each Local Government Area (LGA) to renovate graveyards across the state.

Governor Dikko Radda announced the initiative on Thursday while receiving royal fathers from the Katsina and Daura Emirates in Katsina.

He described the move to renovate the graveyards as a service to the people and a way of seeking Allah’s blessings for Katsina.

Beyond the graveyard renovation, Radda also unveiled a new welfare package for traditional and religious leaders.

Under a recently passed law, all District Heads will now earn salaries equivalent to at least Grade Level 16.

He stated, “In addition, 6,652 Ward Heads across the state will receive monthly allowances, while more than 3,000 Imams and their deputies from Friday Mosques will be supported with stipends.

“Furthermore, Izala and Darika Mosque sweepers in each of the 34 local government areas will also benefit from allowances.”

On security, the governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to tackling insecurity, stressing that it remains the state’s top priority.

He revealed that over 1,500 youths have been trained, kitted, and deployed with uniforms, life jackets, and operational tools to support ongoing security efforts.

“Security is a collective responsibility. We must unite to protect our people,” Radda told the gathering, urging traditional and community leaders to raise awareness among citizens.

Speaking on behalf of the Emir of Daura, Alhaji Umar Faruq-Umar, the District Head of Baure, Alhaji Daha Umar-Farouq, expressed solidarity with the governor and assured him of continued support.

Also, the Wazirin Katsina, Senator Ibrahim Ida, representing the Emir of Katsina, Alhaji Abdulmumini Kabir-Usman, praised Radda for reforms that have restored dignity to traditional institutions and strengthened their role in governance and community development.

He added that the emirate councils would continue to support the government through prayers and cooperation to promote peace, unity, and prosperity across the state.
