2027 election: Momodu challenges Tinubu to present performance scorecard

Dele Momodu has urged President Bola Tinubu to present the achievements of his administration as the basis for seeking another term in office during the 2027 presidential election.

Speaking on Sunrise Daily on Channels Television on Monday, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain said Nigerians would judge the President primarily on his government’s performance rather than political campaigns.

“The 2027 election will not be difficult for Tinubu if he can show the records of his performance,” Momodu said. “It is about performance. Present your scorecards. The people running around spreading hellfire should instead focus on showing the performance of the APC.”

According to the Ovation Magazine publisher, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has weakened its own position by repeatedly blaming previous administrations for the country’s economic and governance challenges.

“What we see is APC abusing itself and its predecessors, saying they inherited a useless government and economy. I have never seen a place where a party destroys its own predecessors like APC,” he said.

Momodu questioned what tangible changes President Tinubu had made since assuming office, arguing that the administration should demonstrate how it has improved the lives of Nigerians if it expects to secure another mandate.

During the interview, he also commented on the renewed public disagreement between former President Olusegun Obasanjo and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

Responding to Obasanjo’s recent remark that choosing Atiku as his vice president was his “greatest mistake”, Momodu claimed the former president does not want Atiku’s long-standing presidential ambition to succeed.

Momodu, a known ally of Atiku Abubakar, made the remarks as political activities continue to gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general election, with several major opposition figures expected to contest the presidency.
