The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced Sandy Onor as its consensus presidential candidate for the 2027 general election.
The announcement was made on Tuesday at the party’s national secretariat, Wadata Plaza in Abuja, during the presentation of the presidential primary results.
According to Channels Television, the PDP Presidential Primaries Collation Committee said the decision followed consultations and voice votes conducted among party members across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
Chairman of the committee and former Benue State governor, Samuel Ortom, said the party reached a consensus after extensive engagement with stakeholders nationwide.
Onor emerged as the sole aspirant after purchasing his expression of interest and nomination forms earlier this month and formally declaring his intention to contest the presidency.
Officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission, including National Commissioners Abdullahi Zuru and Prof. Rhoda Habor Gumus, monitored the exercise at the PDP headquarters.
Following the declaration, party leaders presented Onor with a certificate of return and the PDP flag as the party’s standard bearer for the 2027 presidential election.
The development comes amid heightened political activity ahead of the next general election, with major parties beginning internal consultations and primary processes.
Channels Television reported that party members endorsed the consensus arrangement through consultations conducted across the country.
