The Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, has appointed Anietie Iniedu as the new Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Nigeria Police Force.

The appointment was announced on Friday in a statement issued by outgoing Force spokesman Anthony Placid, who described Iniedu as an experienced police officer with a strong background in public communication, operational policing, intelligence management, institutional accountability, and administration.

A native of Etinan Local Government Area in Akwa Ibom State, Iniedu holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Pure Chemistry from University of Uyo. He has also completed professional training programmes in investigative interviewing, crime scene management, human rights-based policing, strategic communication, and intelligence analysis.

Iniedu replaces Placid, who was appointed Force PRO in March 2026.

Before his elevation, Iniedu served as Head of the Complaint Response Unit at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, where he coordinated public complaint management and led initiatives aimed at improving transparency, accountability, and public trust in the police.

His previous postings include serving as Public Relations Officer at the Police College of Information Technology in Kobape, Ogun State. He also held several operational and administrative roles across the country, including Operations Officer at Maisandari Division in Yobe State, Area Crime Officer at Umuahia Area Command in Abia State, Staff Officer at the IGP Secretariat, Second-in-Command of the 50 Police Mobile Force Squadron in Kubwa, and Officer-in-Charge of the Force Headquarters Situation Room.

As head of the Situation Room, he supervised the coordination and dissemination of crime and security information nationwide.

According to the statement, Disu expressed confidence in Iniedu’s ability to lead the Force Public Relations Department, saying his professional experience would strengthen the police’s strategic communication efforts and deepen public engagement as the force continues its reform agenda.

The appointment marks another key leadership change within the Nigeria Police Force as the organisation seeks to improve communication, accountability, and public confidence in its operations.
