The House of Representatives Ad Hoc Committee investigating the Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC) has faulted several Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) for failing to honour its summons, escalating its probe into the council’s operations.
According to Channels Television, the committee described the absence of key government officials as a major setback to its ongoing investigation.
Committee Chairman Yusuf Gagdi criticised the failure of invited officials to appear before the panel, insisting that representatives would not be accepted in place of principal officials. He specifically faulted the Minister of Finance, whose ministry was represented by another official.
Gagdi warned that the committee would not tolerate non-compliance with its directives, stressing that all invited individuals and institutions must fully cooperate with the investigation or risk further legislative action.
As part of the probe, the committee summoned the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, and the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, to explain how the Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council allegedly operated despite concerns over its legal standing.
Lawmakers said the appearance of both officials would help clarify the circumstances surrounding the council’s activities and address issues raised during the investigation.
The PFIPC remains under scrutiny as the House seeks explanations from relevant government officials and agencies regarding its operations and legitimacy.
During Tuesday’s plenary, the House also resolved to investigate the losses suffered by Nigerians affected by recent xenophobic attacks in South Africa. Lawmakers directed the Committees on Diaspora and Foreign Affairs to document casualties, abandoned properties and economic losses, while recommending diplomatic and legal measures to improve the protection of Nigerians living in the country.
The resolution followed a motion sponsored by Babajimi Benson, representing Ikorodu Federal Constituency of Lagos State.
