The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has sealed three alcohol manufacturing companies in Ota, Ogun State, for allegedly violating the Federal Government’s ban on the production of alcoholic beverages in sachets and small PET bottles.
According to Channels Television, the enforcement exercise was led by the Assistant Director of NAFDAC’s Investigation and Enforcement Directorate, Kunle Ojo, as part of the agency’s ongoing nationwide crackdown on banned alcoholic products.
NAFDAC said inspectors discovered several regulatory breaches during the operation.
At the first factory, officials reportedly found sachet alcoholic drinks in active production alongside large quantities of PET bottles. Although the facility was initially placed under regulatory hold, a follow-up inspection revealed that the seized sachet products had allegedly been secretly removed from the premises.
The agency described the removal of products already under enforcement as a serious regulatory violation.
At the second factory, whose name was withheld, NAFDAC said its team caught the company allegedly continuing the production of sachet alcoholic beverages despite the nationwide ban. The premises were immediately sealed.
The third company had previously been inspected in January, when NAFDAC placed 22 production machines on hold and confiscated millions of PET bottles and sachet packaging materials for destruction.
However, during the latest inspection, officials allegedly found that the company’s seals had been broken and the machines returned to operation. NAFDAC said millions of additional PET bottles were discovered at the site, prompting the immediate sealing of the factory.
Reaffirming its commitment to enforcing the ban, NAFDAC said the operation reflects its zero-tolerance approach to regulatory violations and its determination to protect public health by removing prohibited alcoholic products from circulation.
The agency also urged members of the public to report the illegal production or sale of banned sachet alcoholic beverages to the nearest NAFDAC office.
