The Federal Government has launched a liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinder distribution scheme in Bayelsa State, with 2,700 households set to benefit from the clean cooking initiative.

According to TheCable, the programme is part of the Federal Government’s efforts to expand access to clean energy, reduce reliance on firewood and kerosene, and improve public health through safer cooking methods.

Speaking at the launch, the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Ekperikpe Ekpo, said the initiative aligns with the government’s commitment to increasing domestic gas utilisation and ensuring more Nigerians have access to affordable and cleaner energy.

Ekpo noted that promoting LPG adoption would help curb environmental degradation caused by the use of traditional biomass fuels while also reducing health risks associated with indoor air pollution.

The Bayelsa distribution exercise forms part of a broader national strategy to deepen gas penetration across the country under the government’s clean energy agenda.

Officials said the beneficiaries would receive LPG cylinders and accessories to encourage the transition from conventional cooking fuels to cleaner alternatives.

The Federal Government urged residents to embrace LPG as a safer, more efficient and environmentally friendly cooking fuel, adding that similar interventions would be extended to other states.

The initiative is expected to support Nigeria’s energy transition goals while improving household welfare and advancing sustainable development.

The club has until Friday, October 2, 2026, to lodge its appeal. The club said it was “disappointed and surprised” by the decision and maintained that it was innocent of the allegations. City also argued that the commission’s opinion contained errors of law, principle and fact. Sanction yet to be decided No punishment has been announced at this stage.
