Resident doctors to begin nationwide strike August 10 over unmet demands

The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has announced plans to begin a nationwide warning strike on August 10 following the Federal Government’s failure to meet several outstanding welfare and professional demands.

The decision was reached at the association’s National Executive Council (NEC) meeting, where members expressed dissatisfaction with what they described as the government’s continued inaction despite previous engagements and ultimatums.

NARD said the planned industrial action is intended to press for the implementation of key demands, including the payment of outstanding allowances, improved welfare packages, better working conditions, and the resolution of other unresolved issues affecting resident doctors.

The association warned that the strike could disrupt healthcare services across public hospitals nationwide if the government fails to address its grievances before the scheduled date.

Resident doctors play a critical role in Nigeria’s public health system, particularly in emergency and specialist care, making their industrial actions capable of significantly affecting service delivery.

The association urged the Federal Government to take urgent steps to resolve the issues and avert another nationwide disruption in the health sector.
