Team Nigeria capped an outstanding campaign at the 2026 Commonwealth Games by finishing as the highest-ranked African nation after securing seventh place on the final medals table.

According to Channels Television, Nigeria won 24 medals in Glasgow, Scotland, made up of 10 gold, seven silver and seven bronze medals. The tally placed the country among the top 10 nations at the Games and ahead of every other African team.

Nigeria’s medal charge began with Esther Nworgu, who claimed the country’s first gold medal in the women’s lightweight para powerlifting event.

Other standout performances came from Ezekiel Nathaniel, who won gold in the men’s 400 metres hurdles, Goodness Nwachukwu, who broke her own world record to win the women’s F42 discus throw, Idris Riluwan, who claimed gold in the men’s para powerlifting event, and Chukwuebuka Enekwechi, who made history by winning the men’s shot put.

Tobi Amusan also added to Nigeria’s medal haul despite competing with an injury, earning bronze in the women’s 100 metres hurdles.

Australia finished at the top of the medals table with 171 medals, including 70 gold medals. England placed second with 110 medals, while Canada finished third with 62 medals. India and hosts Scotland completed the top five, with New Zealand taking sixth place ahead of Nigeria.

Jamaica finished eighth, Wales ninth and Malaysia completed the top 10. South Africa ended the Games in 11th place, while Kenya finished 13th.

Nigeria’s seventh-place finish and 10 gold medals underline one of the country’s strongest Commonwealth Games performances in recent years and cement its status as Africa’s leading team at Glasgow 2026.
