The UK government has appointed Vicky Seymour as the new Deputy High Commissioner to Nigeria, succeeding Gill Lever OBE, who completed her posting in June 2026.
According to Channels Television, Seymour has assumed her duties in Abuja, where she will help strengthen the long-standing partnership between the United Kingdom and Nigeria. Her responsibilities will cover key areas including economic growth, security, migration, development, international cooperation and people-to-people ties.
Seymour brings more than 20 years of experience in diplomacy, international development and public service.
Before taking up her new role, she served as Head of the East Africa Department at the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), a position she held from 2023. She also previously led the FCDO’s Trade Diplomacy Department and worked as Development Director in Mozambique.
Her career includes senior leadership roles across Africa, including postings in Uganda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, as well as Afghanistan. She has also worked on climate, security and economic development issues.
Prior to joining the UK civil service, Seymour worked in the not-for-profit sector, focusing on migration.
The appointment comes as the UK seeks to deepen cooperation with Nigeria across a range of strategic and development priorities.
