Three siblings, including 11-year-old twins, have been found dead near a small river on a farm around the Owena Army Barracks area of Akure, Ondo State.
The victims were identified as Joshua Jonah, Jacob Jonah, both aged 11, and their five-year-old sister, Blessing Jonah.
According to Channels Television, the children had accompanied their father, Samuel Jonah, to the farm on Friday, September 4, before leaving for home ahead of him. They were later reported missing when they failed to return home.
A search involving family members, neighbours and other residents led to the discovery of their bodies on Saturday near the riverbank within the farm.
Confirming the incident on Sunday, the Ondo State Police Command spokesperson, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, said an investigation had begun to establish the circumstances surrounding the children’s deaths.
Jimoh said the remains had been released to the family for burial, while police efforts to determine the exact cause of death were continuing.
The police spokesperson also urged parents and guardians to closely monitor children, particularly around rivers, ponds and other potentially dangerous water bodies.
