OPay has won two awards at the 2026 BusinessDay Banks and Other Financial Institutions (BAFI) Awards, emerging as Digital Bank of the Year and Financial Inclusion Leader of the Year.
The awards were presented at the 14th edition of the ceremony, held on 9 October 2026 at the Civic Centre in Lagos, in recognition of the company’s contributions to digital financial services and financial inclusion in Nigeria.
According to a press release published by TheCable on Thursday, the awards recognise OPay’s efforts to expand access to financial services through technology.
The company supports tens of millions of users and more than one million merchants and businesses, providing financial services through mobile applications, USSD, cards, digital wallets and agency banking.
Its multi-channel approach is designed to make financial transactions more accessible, particularly for underserved communities, while supporting individuals, small businesses and merchants.
Speaking on the recognition, Dotun Adekunle, OPay’s Chief Operating Officer and Chief Technology Officer, commended BusinessDay for recognising excellence in Nigeria’s financial services sector.
He said the awards reaffirmed the company’s commitment to providing reliable and secure services that deliver value to Nigerians.
Adekunle added: “Our services are Okay, our people are Okay, and OPay is Okay.”
The company said its nationwide network of merchants and agents continues to connect individuals and businesses to digital financial services, encouraging participation in the formal financial system.
OPay also reiterated its commitment to prioritising customers, building trust and developing solutions to simplify everyday financial transactions.
Established in 2018, OPay provides services including money transfers, bill payments, airtime and data purchases, card services and merchant payments.
The company said it is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and insured by the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation, with the same insurance coverage as commercial banks.
