Police investigate scene after elderly woman was raped and found dead in bush in Badagry, Lagos.

60-year-old woman found dead after alleged rape in Badagry

A 60-year-old woman was found dead in a bush in the Oke Egan area of Badagry after she was allegedly attacked while returning from a church programme, according to a report by Punch Newspapers. The victim, identified as Victoria Adegoke, was discovered early Friday morning in the Ilogbo-Eremi community. Community sources said that she was found unclothed, with signs suggesting she may have been raped before being strangled and dragged into nearby bushland. A local community leader, who spoke anonymously because of the sensitive nature of the case, said Adegoke had attended a programme at The Joy of Christ Ministry and had stayed with a sibling living near the church after the event. He said she was reportedly attacked around 6am while making her way home. Her mobile phone was taken, while her ATM card and Bible were reportedly found at the scene. Another resident said the area, located along the border between Lagos State and Ogun State, has a history of violent crime, adding that several similar incidents have been recorded in the community in recent years. The source said passersby spotted the body and alerted officers at the Ilogbo-Eremi police post. Photographs cited by Punch reportedly showed marks indicating the victim’s hands may have been tied. The spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, CSP Abimbola Adebisi, had not responded to calls or a WhatsApp message seeking official comment as of the time Punch published the report. The incident has heightened concerns among residents over security in the border community, with calls for police to track the perpetrators through the victim’s stolen phone.

Abuja building collapse, five dead, 10 rescued as search continues

A three-storey building under construction has collapsed in the Durumi 3 area near Abuja, leaving at least five people dead and 10 rescued alive, according to Punch Newspaper.   The incident happened on Saturday morning near Gudu Market, with emergency workers continuing efforts to reach people believed to still be trapped under the rubble. The report was first published by Punch, citing officials of the Federal Capital Territory Administration.   According to the FCTA, rescue teams recovered five bodies from the collapsed structure, while 10 survivors were pulled out alive. Search operations remained ongoing as responders combed through debris at the construction site in the Gudu district.   The statement was issued by Lere Olayinka, spokesperson to Nyesom Wike, who confirmed the scale of the incident and said additional victims may still be under the wreckage.   The FCT Mandate Secretary of Health Services and Environment Secretariat, Adedolapo Fasawe, visited the scene and said Wike had directed that all injured victims receive free medical treatment. Emergency teams including the Federal Fire Service, security agencies, health workers and local volunteers were seen at the site as residents gathered anxiously nearby.   Authorities have yet to confirm the cause of the collapse, while rescue operations continue.
Yusuf Buhari after emerging winner of APC House of Representatives primary in Katsina State.

Buhari’s son wins APC primary for Katsina Federal Constituency

According to Punch Newspaper, Yusuf Buhari, son of late former President Muhammadu Buhari, has secured the All Progressives Congress House of Representatives ticket for the Sandamu/Daura/Mai’adua Federal Constituency ahead of the 2027 general election.   The primary election held on Saturday across the three local government areas saw Yusuf Buhari record a decisive victory, polling 6,386 votes. His closest challenger, Auwal Daura, received 322 votes. Party officials said the exercise took place peacefully, with accredited delegates voting across Sandamu, Daura and Mai’adua. The constituency has 21,855 registered voters, while 6,837 delegates were accredited for the primary. A total of 6,708 votes were cast.   A supervising official identified as Ibrahim described the process as transparent, saying the result reflected the choice of party members in the constituency.   The victory has stirred political discussions within the Daura axis, long regarded as a stronghold of the Buhari family. Yusuf’s large margin of victory is being viewed as a sign that the family’s political influence remains strong in the area.   Yusuf Buhari had not publicly reacted to the result at the time Punch filed its report, but supporters and APC members reportedly celebrated shortly after the announcement.   He is now expected to contest the constituency seat under the APC in the 2027 general election.
Cubana Chief Priest loses APC ticket after losing the Imo House of Representatives primary to incumbent lawmaker Canice Nwachukwu ahead of 2027 polls.

Cubana Chief Priest defeated in APC House of Reps primary

Popular socialite and businessman Cubana Chief Priest has lost the All Progressives Congress ticket to contest for the House of Representatives seat for Orsu, Orlu and Oru East Federal Constituency in Imo State.   The celebrity businessman was defeated during the APC primary election by incumbent lawmaker Omeogo Canice Moore Nwachukwu, who retained the party’s ticket for the constituency ahead of the 2027 general election.   Cubana Chief Priest, known for his prominence in Nigeria’s nightlife and entertainment circles, had recently announced plans to enter active politics. His ambition attracted widespread attention, particularly in the South-East, where his popularity and youth outreach campaigns had boosted his profile.   The socialite had formally purchased the APC nomination and expression of interest forms to seek the federal seat. He said his decision to run was driven by a desire to promote youth empowerment and grassroots development across the constituency.   He is also recognised as the coordinator of the South-East City Boy Movement, a political support group linked to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.   The APC primary outcome ends, for now, Cubana Chief Priest’s bid to secure elective office, while Canice Nwachukwu moves forward as the party’s candidate for the federal constituency race in 2027.
