The name Engr. AbdulGaniyu Jaji, the Controller General of the Federal Fire Service, is one that has become akin to dedication, innovation, and result-driven leadership in Nigeria’s emergency services sector. As the head of the Service, Engr. Jaji has been instrumental in shaping the Service’s vision and direction, driving initiatives that have significantly improved effectiveness and reach

Under his stewardship, the Service has recorded massive achievements, building on the momentum gained in 2024 and propelling the Service to even greater heights in 2025. This success can be attributed to Engr. Jaji’s staunch commitment to delivering the Renewed Hope Mandate championed by President Tinubu, with the Minister of Interior, Hon (Dr) Olubunmi Tunji-ojo, providing strong support and guidance.

One of the hallmarks of Engr. Jaji’s leadership is his emphasis on infrastructure development. The ongoing remodeling of the National Fire Academy is a strategic move to enhance the Service’s capacity and readiness. This, coupled with the recent launch of modern handheld radios to boost emergency response, demonstrates a clear commitment to leveraging technology and infrastructure to improve service delivery.

Amid the blazing demands of firefighting, the Federal Fire Service’s proactive approach to personnel welfare is another area where Engr. Jaji’s sterling leadership manifests. The unveiling of a comprehensive mental health care program for officers is another groundbreaking initiative that acknowledges the psychological toll of their duties. By prioritizing the mental wellbeing of its personnel, the Service is not only enhancing their quality of life but also ensuring they are better equipped to handle the demands of their role.

Furthermore, the CG’s visionary facilitation of meaningful partnerships is evident in the Federal Fire Service’s collaboration with IPMAN and the Federal Road Safety Corps to enhance fuel tanker safety and reduce fire related crashes. This effort, alongside the successful training of officers, ensures Nigerians can rely on prompt emergency rescue services, providing a sense of safety on the roads amid growing petrol tanker explosion and accidents scare.

Another critical aspect of Engr. Jaji’s technique is his emphasis on shared responsibility. By imploring citizens to follow safety protocols and regulations, he is enabling a culture of safety and awareness that transcends the Fire Service. His quotes, “To achieve a world-class Fire Service in Nigeria, it must be a shared responsibility. Let every citizen be a champion of safety and progress” and “Fire safety is a shared responsibility, ensure safety in your home, workplace or road. Early detection and public awareness are as vital as our readiness to respond,” encapsulate this philosophy.

During the service’s first press briefing earlier this year, The CG lauded the Minister of Interior, Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, for his cooperation, which according to him, enables the Service to function effectively. He cited moral boost, training, promotion, and remuneration as key areas where the Minister’s support has made a significant impact. Undoubtedly, this appreciation reflects Tunji-ojo’s devotion to good governance and people-centric reforms, across all the Services within his purview.

Moreover, the CG’s continuous commendation of the Renewed Hope administration of President Tinubu, under which his Service operates, confirms that the administration is providing a conducive environment for initiatives, positive initiatives, to thrive.

To sum up, Engr. Jaji’s leadership has brought about unprecedented improvements in the Federal Fire Service’s operations, with a focus on practical solutions that have enhanced total effectiveness. The progress made so far sets a solid foundation for future advancements in fire safety and emergency management.
