Senator Francis Fadahunsi has denied allegations that he incited violence ahead of the Osun State governorship election, describing a viral video attributed to him as deliberately edited and I misleading.
The controversy follows a clip circulated on social media in which Fadahunsi was allegedly heard calling on supporters to kill members of the Accord Party found in Ilesa ahead of Saturday’s election.
Fadahunsi, however, rejected the allegation in a statement on Tuesday, saying his remarks had been taken out of context.
According to the senator, he was responding to what he described as continued attacks and killings of APC members allegedly carried out by Accord Party thugs in Ilesa and other parts of the state.
He said his actual warning was that the APC would retaliate if the alleged attacks continued.
“What I said was that if the alleged killing of our party members by Accord Party thugs does not stop, our party will retaliate,” Fadahunsi said.
He accused those who circulated the clip of deliberately cutting a short portion from a speech that lasted about 24 minutes in order to advance political objectives.
Fadahunsi maintained that his comments were about defending APC members and demanding an end to alleged violence, insisting that those involved in the reported killings were Nigerians from the same communities.
Adeleke Demands Immediate Arrest
Meanwhile, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has called for the immediate arrest and investigation of Fadahunsi over the comments.
Adeleke accused the senator of inciting violence and genocide against members of the Accord Party, describing the matter as a national security threat.
The governor said he had raised the issue with Inspector-General of Police Tunji Disu and requested an investigation into the lawmaker.
“This is now beyond politics. This is now a national security threat,” Adeleke said.
He also called on the police and Department of State Services to arrest Fadahunsi over what he described as incitement against people in Ijesaland and Osun State.
The IGP, according to Adeleke, had confirmed the existence of the video and assured him that action would be taken.
The dispute comes just days before the Osun State governorship election scheduled for Saturday, August 15, 2026, with political tensions rising ahead of the poll.
