Gunmen kill 8-month-old baby and seven others – Plateau State

Gunmen suspected to be herders have killed eight persons including an 8-month-old baby and her father at Farin Lamba, Vwang District in Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State.

According to the National Publicity Secretary, Berom Youth Movement, (BYM) Rwang Tengwong, the attack occurred at about 9:45pm on Sunday night, July 9, 2023.

“This is as the bandits continue to unleash terror on innocent citizens in some Communities of Riyom, Barkin Ladi, Jos South and Mangu Local Government Areas of Plateau state in renewed attacks since after 2023 General Elections,” Tengwong said in a statement on Monday.

“The attackers who came in a Vectra shot sporadically at the victims who were heading home after the day’s activities.

“The eight months old baby who was murdered with her father were said to to returning from the hospital when they met their untimely death

“Before this unprovoked attack, several communities in Riyom, Barkin Ladi, Jos South and Mangu Local Government Area have witnessed deliberate destruction of farmlands and provocative grazing of over 300 hecter of land.

“Also, there have been daily ambush and killing of innocent persons on motorcycles after Ta-hoss village in Riyom LGA, along the Abuja highway which has taken the lives 4 persons and one injure.

“The BYM under the leadership of Solomon Dalyop Mwantiri, Esq. hereby condemn the attack and other forms of provocations meted out on innocent persons of Plateau since after the 2023 General Election

However, the pronouncement by the new General Officer Commanding, 3 Armoured Division Maxwell Khobe Cantonment, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar during an on-the-spot assessment at Sabon Gari, Mangu Local Government Area a day after he took over as GOC to ruthless deal with criminal elements and restoring peace to communities that have experienced attacks in Plateau state and Joint Operation Area as a whole is a cheering news to us

We believe that with the commitment from the new GOC to be firm, decisive and fair to all in discharging the constitutional mandate of protecting lives and property of the citizens.

A three-storey building under construction has collapsed in the Durumi 3 area near Abuja, leaving at least five people dead and 10 rescued alive, according to Punch Newspaper.   The incident happened on Saturday morning near Gudu Market, with emergency workers continuing efforts to reach people believed to still be trapped under the rubble. Emergency teams including the Federal Fire Service, security agencies, health workers and local volunteers were seen at the site as residents gathered anxiously nearby.   Authorities have yet to confirm the cause of the collapse, while rescue operations continue.
