Sunday Katung, Shehu Sani and Ramalan Yero have emerged as winners of the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial primaries in Kaduna State ahead of the 2027 general elections.

According to Channels Television, the three politicians secured their party tickets across Kaduna South, Central and North senatorial districts during the primary elections held on Monday.

Katung won the Kaduna South contest, defeating Danjuma Tella Laah and Michael Ayuba Auta. Results announced at the collation centre in Jema’a Local Government Area showed Katung polled 7,453 votes, while Laah got 1,370 and Auta secured 878.

The returning officer, John Laah, said delegates from eight local government areas took part in what he described as a peaceful and credible process.

In Kaduna Central, former senator Shehu Sani defeated Yusuf Zailani, polling 9,105 votes against Zailani’s 1,021. Yerima Shettima, who had withdrawn before the poll, still recorded 1,253 votes.

Shehu Sani, who represented Kaduna Central in the Senate from 2015 to 2019, thanked Bola Tinubu and Uba Sani after his victory, saying he appreciated their support and the trust placed in his candidacy.

For Kaduna North, former governor Ramalan Yero defeated Muazu Mukaddas and Bala Ikara, polling 6,060 votes against 1,044 and 362 respectively.

Despite the victories, the primaries ended amid protests. A coalition of aggrieved aspirants led by Danjuma Laah challenged the conduct of the process, alleging irregularities and the imposition of consensus candidates in the senatorial and House of Representatives primaries.

The dispute is expected to test internal cohesion within the APC in Kaduna as preparations continue for the 2027 elections.

Flood: Election or not, Abuja will demolish houses on drainage ways – Wike

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has ordered the demolition of houses built on drainage channels in Abuja, warning that no property owner will be spared in the enforcement.   Wike announced the decision during a press briefing on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, following recent flooding in parts of the Federal Capital Territory. According to Channels Television, the minister said the flooding had exposed the consequences of developments obstructing designated waterways and drainage channels. He said the affected properties include those belonging to wealthy Nigerians and prominent individuals, dismissing suggestions that the enforcement would target ordinary residents. The FCT Administration has identified buildings obstructing waterways and plans to commence demolitions between Tuesday and Saturday. Wike also rejected claims that the exercise was politically motivated because of the approaching elections. “Election or not,” the minister said, the government would demolish houses obstructing waterways because “the right thing has to be done.” He maintained that political considerations would not prevent the government from enforcing Abuja’s master plan and addressing structures contributing to flooding.
