The Niger State Government has commenced the payment of retirement benefits and death gratuity to eligible State and Local Government pensioners across the state.
The exercise covers Batch 12 of the State Government Gratuity, Batch One of the State Government Death Gratuity and Batch Three of the Local Government Gratuity, according to Channels Television.
State Government beneficiaries have started collecting their cheques at the Niger State Pension Board Headquarters in Minna.
For Local Government beneficiaries, payment centres have been arranged across the three zones. Beneficiaries in Zone A are collecting their cheques at the Bida Local Government Secretariat, while those in Zone B are receiving theirs at the Niger State Pension Board Headquarters in Minna.
Beneficiaries in Zone C are collecting their payments at the Kontagora Local Government Secretariat.
The state government said the payments form part of its efforts to settle approved retirement benefits owed to pensioners and improve the welfare of senior citizens who served the state.
Meanwhile, representatives from some northern states are understudying the operations of the Niger State Pension Board following what they described as progress recorded in the management and payment of pension-related benefits.
The Niger State Government said it would continue taking steps to improve the welfare of pensioners and ensure eligible beneficiaries receive their entitlements as and when due.
