The Super Falcons have received the Federal Government’s promised rewards for winning the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, just hours before beginning their defence of the continental title at the 2026 tournament in Morocco.

According to The Punch, the Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Shehu Dikko, presented the rewards to the players in Rabat on Tuesday ahead of Nigeria’s opening Group C match against Malawi. The presentation was attended by Nigeria Football Federation General Secretary, Dr Mohammed Sanusi, and Super Falcons captain Rasheedat Ajibade.

The packages reportedly contained title documents for the three-bedroom houses promised to each player, alongside certificates confirming their national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON).

The Nigeria Football Federation announced the presentation on its official X account, stating that the Federal Government’s promised rewards had been formally handed over to the reigning African champions.

President Bola Tinubu announced the reward package after Nigeria staged a dramatic comeback from two goals down to beat hosts Morocco 3-2 in the final of the 2024 WAFCON, securing a record-extending 10th continental title. Each player was promised $100,000, while members of the technical crew and backroom staff were awarded $50,000 each, in addition to a house and national honours.

Speaking before travelling to Morocco, Dikko confirmed that the cash rewards had already been paid into the players’ bank accounts after the completion of administrative processes. He explained that the presentation of the housing documents was delayed to ensure the squad could receive them together before the start of the 2026 tournament.

Dikko said the gesture was intended to boost the team’s morale as they pursue an unprecedented 11th WAFCON title.

Nigeria opened their Group C campaign against debutants Malawi on Tuesday and will also face Zambia and Egypt in the group stage.
