Three police officers have been killed following an improvised explosive device (IED) blast on the Anka–Bagega road in Anka Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

The incident occurred around 5:05pm on June 15 when a police explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) team moved to clear a suspected device believed to have been planted by bandits along the route.

Security sources cited by counter-insurgency publication Zagazola Makama said the team, which included personnel of the Violent Crime Response Unit, was operating with an armoured personnel carrier when the vehicle triggered the explosive.

The explosion killed SP Abdulrazak Musa Hassan, Inspector Murtala Musa, and Inspector Auwal Ahmad.

Their bodies were evacuated to the Federal Medical Centre in Gusau for post-mortem examination, while authorities have since reinforced security in the area and continued clearance operations along the route.

The Anka axis has witnessed repeated attacks linked to armed groups, with security agencies maintaining ongoing operations to prevent further incidents.
