Paul Onuachu has been crowned joint top scorer in the Turkish Süper Lig for the 2025/26 season after scoring 22 goals for Trabzonspor.

According to Channels Television, the Super Eagles striker shared the Golden Boot award with Eldor Shomurodov of Istanbul Başakşehir, who also finished the campaign on 22 goals.

Onuachu reached the tally in 30 league appearances and added two assists, capping a standout season in Turkey. Shomurodov drew level after scoring in Başakşehir’s final match of the season against Gaziantep FK.

Fenerbahçe forward Anderson Talisca finished third in the scoring charts with 19 goals.

The award makes Onuachu the sixth Trabzonspor player to claim the Süper Lig’s top scorer honour, underlining the Nigerian striker’s strong impact since arriving in Turkey.

Last season, fellow Nigerian Victor Osimhen won the same prize after scoring 26 goals in 30 matches. This term, the former Napoli striker netted 15 goals in 22 league appearances.

Nigeria’s national team, Super Eagles, praised Onuachu’s achievement in a post on X, describing him as “a force to reckon with” after his prolific campaign.

In Italy, Maduka Okoye also picked up recognition after being named Player of the Month for May at Udinese. The goalkeeper kept two clean sheets in three games and has now recorded 10 shutouts in 29 Serie A matches this season.

Both Onuachu and Okoye are expected to feature for Nigeria at the Unity Cup in the UK later this month. The tournament will be staged at The Valley in South London from May 26 to 30, with Nigeria facing Zimbabwe national football team in the semi-finals.

Flood: Election or not, Abuja will demolish houses on drainage ways – Wike

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has ordered the demolition of houses built on drainage channels in Abuja, warning that no property owner will be spared in the enforcement.   Wike announced the decision during a press briefing on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, following recent flooding in parts of the Federal Capital Territory. According to Channels Television, the minister said the flooding had exposed the consequences of developments obstructing designated waterways and drainage channels. He said the affected properties include those belonging to wealthy Nigerians and prominent individuals, dismissing suggestions that the enforcement would target ordinary residents. The FCT Administration has identified buildings obstructing waterways and plans to commence demolitions between Tuesday and Saturday. Wike also rejected claims that the exercise was politically motivated because of the approaching elections. “Election or not,” the minister said, the government would demolish houses obstructing waterways because “the right thing has to be done.” He maintained that political considerations would not prevent the government from enforcing Abuja’s master plan and addressing structures contributing to flooding.
