Pascal Okechukwu, popularly known as Cubana Chief Priest, has claimed that Bola Ahmed Tinubu still does not fully trust him because of his public backing for Peter Obi during the 2023 presidential election.
Speaking during a livestream with streamer Peller, the businessman said his previous support for Obi and his Igbo identity continue to shape how the president views him, according to Punch.
Chief Priest said Tinubu “look me with one eye” because he had campaigned for Obi before the last election, adding that the presidency remains cautious about his loyalty.
The socialite, who currently serves as Imo State coordinator of the Pro-Tinubu City Boys Movement, said he switched allegiance because he no longer wanted to back losing candidates. He described the move as a practical political decision, saying he had learned from the 2023 contest.
He also dismissed Obi’s chances ahead of the 2027 presidential race, claiming the former Labour Party candidate was “not serious” and insisting that only “serious people” would emerge victorious.
The comments quickly triggered debate on social media, with critics accusing Chief Priest of political opportunism while others argued his remarks reflect the realities of Nigeria’s winner-takes-all politics.
Punch reported that Chief Priest was a vocal supporter of Obi and the Labour Party in the last election but has since moved to the ruling All Progressives Congress. He recently purchased an APC primary form to contest for a House of Representatives seat but later withdrew before the party’s primary vote.
