A 60-year-old headmaster, Kolawale Mathew Owoade, has been abducted by gunmen in Itesiwaju Local Government Area of Oyo State, with his captors reportedly demanding N30 million for his release.
According to Punch, the victim, who heads Nomadic Basic School in Igbojaye, Budo Aare, was kidnapped on Saturday evening, July 11, while returning from his farm between 5pm and 6pm.
His son, Abiola Owoade, said the kidnappers contacted the family shortly after the abduction using the victim’s mobile phone and demanded a ransom of N30 million.
He added that a search team later recovered the headmaster’s abandoned motorcycle in a nearby bush at about 8:20am on Sunday.
The family has appealed to the Nigerian Army, the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Amotekun, hunters, vigilantes and other security agencies to intensify efforts to rescue him safely.
The latest abduction comes just days after more than 40 pupils and teachers kidnapped from three schools in Oyo State regained their freedom following a joint security operation.
Confirming the incident, Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade, said the victim was kidnapped while working on his farm in Budo Aare.
He said security operatives have launched efforts to rescue the headmaster unharmed and arrest those responsible.
