Abuja – Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule has dismissed comparisons between President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima and the leading opposition presidential tickets ahead of the 2027 general election, describing the difference as “like day and night.”
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Tuesday, Sule argued that the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket stands above rival pairings because of what he described as the Tinubu administration’s record in governance, infrastructure, education and the economy.
Responding to questions on why Nigerians should support the Tinubu-Shettima ticket over the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) duo of Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso or the African Democratic Congress (ADC) alliance of Atiku Abubakar and Rotimi Amaechi, the governor said there was no basis for comparison.
“It’s like day and night; you cannot even compare,” Sule said.
He credited President Tinubu with demonstrating courage, foresight and performance during his first three years in office, insisting these achievements would shape the outcome of the next presidential election.
Addressing concerns over insecurity, Sule acknowledged the challenge but argued that it predates the current administration.
He pointed to ongoing infrastructure projects, the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) initiative and growth in the capital market as evidence of the administration’s achievements.
Sule also maintained that President Tinubu’s quest for a second term would be based on his administration’s performance rather than electoral manipulation. He further expressed confidence in the APC’s political strength, noting that the party currently controls 31 state governments.
On the controversy surrounding the Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket, the Nasarawa governor defended the arrangement, saying it had not led to the marginalisation of any religious group. He cited the late MKO Abiola’s presidential campaign as an example, arguing that competence should take precedence over religious considerations in leadership.
His remarks come as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 general election. Following a series of opposition realignments, Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso are expected to contest on the platform of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), while former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi are leading another opposition alliance under the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
