The Walt Disney Company has announced a landmark partnership with TikTok that will allow users of the popular short video platform to add extracts from Disney films and characters to their content.
The agreement, described by Disney as a “first-of-its-kind” collaboration, is designed to bring creators closer to the Disney+ streaming platform through a curated feed of fan-created videos featuring Disney’s iconic characters and stories.
While the company did not disclose the financial or licensing terms of the partnership, it said the initiative forms part of its broader strategy of using advanced technologies to strengthen storytelling, increase audience engagement and boost monetisation.
Disney revealed the agreement in its quarterly earnings report, which showed revenue climbed seven per cent year-on-year to $25.2 billion.
The entertainment giant has already embraced short-form content by introducing TikTok-style vertical video previews for Pixar, Marvel and Star Wars titles on Disney+, aiming to attract younger audiences accustomed to scrolling video feeds.
Despite the revenue growth, Disney’s net profit fell to $2.8 billion in the quarter ending June 27, down from $5.9 billion a year earlier. The company attributed part of the decline to a higher tax bill, although its financial results exceeded most analysts’ expectations.
The announcement comes as major entertainment companies continue to deepen partnerships with social media platforms to expand the reach of their content and connect with digital creators.
