A senator representing an Osun senatorial district has allegedly called on supporters to kill members of the Accord Party ahead of Saturday’s governorship election in the state.

The alleged remarks were made in Yoruba in a video shared on social media by Afrobeats singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido.

Davido described the individual in the video as a sitting senator and shared an English translation of the remarks.

According to the translation, the lawmaker allegedly told supporters: “From now on, whenever you see Accord members, kill them. I authorise you to kill them.”

The senator also allegedly warned supporters that Accord members should not be allowed to vote, even if they arrived at polling units with valid voter cards.

In another part of the video, the lawmaker reportedly referred to the Accord Party’s activities in Ilesa and urged supporters to act against members of the party before election day.

The alleged comments have emerged just days before voters in Osun State are expected to elect a governor, amid heightened political tensions between rival camps.

The development has also raised concerns about possible intimidation and violence as political parties intensify their campaigns ahead of the poll.

Security agencies, political parties and other election stakeholders have repeatedly appealed to supporters to reject violence and ensure a peaceful electoral process.
