President Bola Tinubu and governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress have begun efforts to resolve the controversy surrounding the party’s 2027 Presidential Campaign Council list.

Tinubu met with members of the Progressives Governors’ Forum at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Thursday as consultations continued over the 223-member campaign structure released by the APC on August 23.

The meeting followed an earlier session between the President and party stakeholders on Wednesday, which reportedly lasted several hours but was not concluded.

The campaign council list had generated criticism over the inclusion of some party figures facing corruption-related charges, while concerns were also raised that some sections of the APC were not adequately consulted during its preparation.

According to The PUNCH, sources close to the APC governors and senior party figures said the list had been reviewed during the consultations.

One source said the original list had been deleted from the party’s X account, with a revised version expected to be published after Tinubu’s approval.

The source said the campaign list was a major focus of the discussions and that the deletion of the earlier version indicated that changes were being considered.

The APC had previously named Tinubu as chairman of the Presidential Campaign Council, with Vice President Kashim Shettima and APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda as first and second vice chairmen.

Senator Abdulaziz Yari was named Director-General, while Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma was designated Secretary.

The expanded structure also included directorates covering areas such as finance, education, manufacturing and MSMEs, extractive industries, labour relations, faith-based mobilisation, grassroots engagement, digital operations and welfare.

Speaking earlier on the controversy, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare, said adjustments could be made to the list where necessary.

Dare maintained that the council structure remained valid because it was not yet complete, with several subcommittees still to be constituted.

He said the anticipated changes should be regarded as “adjustments” rather than a wholesale review of the campaign council.

Meanwhile, The PUNCH reported that the APC is also planning to intensify social intervention programmes ahead of the January 2027 election as part of efforts to engage Nigerians and address economic hardship.
