Dan Osi Orbih, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and former national vice-chairman of the party for the South-South, has died at the age of 64.

Orbih died on Monday, August 31, 2026, according to a statement issued by Francis Orbih on behalf of the family.

The family described his death as a painful loss, saying Orbih was survived by his wife, Florence, his children, Winifred Anwosiobor Orbih and Mildred Omonemi Orbih, as well as his siblings and other members of the extended family.

Orbih was a prominent figure in Edo State politics and served as chairman of the Edo State chapter of the PDP.

He was also aligned with the political faction of the party backed by Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.

Wike mourned Orbih in a statement issued by Lere Olayinka, his senior special assistant on public communications and social media.

The FCT minister described Orbih as a close friend and committed political ally, saying his death represented “the fall of one of the biggest trees in the political forest of Edo State”.

“I have lost a friend and a committed political ally. Dan Osi Orbih was everything anyone could desire in a friend and political associate,” Wike said.

He added that Orbih was “a good friend, a great politician, and a man of faith in the Almighty God”.

Wike also expressed his condolences to Orbih’s family and urged them to accept the loss as an act of God.

The family appealed to friends, political associates and well-wishers to remember them in their prayers as they mourn the late politician.
