President Bola Tinubu has appointed Aviation and Aerospace Development Minister Festus Keyamo to head the All Progressives Congress (APC) Directorate of Air Mobilisation for the 2027 presidential re-election campaign.

The appointment places Keyamo in charge of coordinating aviation-related logistics and air transportation for the ruling party’s nationwide campaign activities ahead of the 2027 general election.

According to a statement issued on Sunday by Keyamo’s Special Adviser on Media and Communications, Tunde Moshood, the minister will serve as Director of the Directorate of Air Mobilisation.

The Managing Director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Olubunmi Kuku, has been appointed Deputy Director I, while Engr. Farouk Ahmed Umar will serve as Deputy Director II.

Channels Television reported the appointments on Monday, October 26, 2026.

Directorate to Coordinate Campaign Air Travel

The directorate is expected to coordinate air transportation requirements, facilitate travel arrangements for designated campaign officials and personnel, and support campaign activities across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones.

According to the statement, the appointments reflect the importance of aviation logistics, operational coordination and air transportation to organising a nationwide presidential campaign.

The directorate will work with other campaign structures to coordinate travel schedules, manage logistical resources and support the movement of campaign officials across multiple locations.

Its operations are expected to comply with aviation safety requirements, applicable electoral laws and other relevant regulations.

Keyamo’s Aviation Experience Cited

The statement said Keyamo’s experience as aviation minister was expected to support the directorate’s planning and coordination responsibilities.

It noted that his involvement in aviation policy initiatives and familiarity with the industry’s operational demands could help establish an effective framework for campaign air mobilisation.

The appointment of Kuku and Umar as deputy directors is also expected to bring aviation-sector leadership and technical experience to the directorate.

The statement highlighted the importance of air transportation in managing campaign schedules, particularly when political leaders and officials must travel to several locations within limited timeframes.

It added that the directorate’s effectiveness would depend on collaboration with other campaign units, clear operational procedures and compliance with aviation regulations.

The statement also stressed the need to maintain a clear distinction between campaign operations and official government functions, with campaign-related arrangements conducted through properly authorised channels.

APC Steps Up Preparations for 2027 Election

Tinubu’s re-election campaign is being organised through the APC Presidential Campaign Council, which brings together party leaders and designated directorates to coordinate preparations for the 2027 general election.

The Directorate of Air Mobilisation is expected to support the council’s wider operations by coordinating air travel and related logistics for campaign activities nationwide.

FBI arrest nine in Nigeria, seizes 53 devices in cybercrime raid

The United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has arrested nine suspects in Nigeria and seized 53 electronic devices during an operation targeting international cybercrime networks accused of stealing billions of dollars from Americans.   The operation, code-named Operation Blackout, also led to the identification of $11 million in funds that could potentially be frozen across multiple countries. Kash Patel, FBI director, disclosed the development in a statement published on his official X account on Sunday. Patel said the operation targeted scam centres and international cybercriminal networks accused of exploiting victims and stealing their life savings. “Operation Blackout is taking the fight directly to the international cybercriminal networks stealing billions from Americans,” he said. He added that the networks operated across international borders, believing they were beyond the reach of law enforcement. Patel commended Nigerian law enforcement agencies and their partners in London for their cooperation during the operation. The FBI director also vowed to prosecute criminals who target Americans from other countries. Previous Cases Involving Nigerians The latest operation comes amid a series of international investigations involving Nigerians accused of cybercrime and online fraud. In September, South African authorities handed over six Nigerians to FBI officials over allegations that they defrauded more than 100 women through romance scams. In August, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) extradited two Nigerians to the United States over allegations of online sexual exploitation and sextortion involving two teenage boys who later died by suicide. In August 2025, the FBI also arrested 22 Nigerians allegedly linked to financially motivated sextortion schemes associated with a rise in suicides among American teenagers. The latest arrests highlight continued cooperation between Nigerian and international law enforcement agencies in efforts to tackle cybercrime across borders.
