A building collapsed in Wuse Zone 4, Abuja, on Monday evening, September 7, just hours after the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) Development Control Department sealed the property and ordered occupants to vacate.
The incident occurred at about 7:45pm, according to the FCT Police Command, which said it received a distress call and immediately deployed officers to the scene.
Emergency responders, including the FCT Fire Service, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA), Federal Fire Service and other relevant agencies, joined the search and rescue operation.
Three ambulances were also stationed at the scene as emergency personnel searched the rubble for possible victims.
Police said no victims had been confirmed as of the time of the report, while search and rescue operations continued to determine whether anyone was trapped beneath the collapsed structure.
The police also confirmed that preliminary investigations showed the building had previously been marked and sealed by the FCTA Department of Development Control.
Investigations are ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the collapse and determine its possible cause.
The Command urged residents to stay away from the affected area, remain calm and cooperate with emergency responders.
