Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has alleged sabotage after a section of the newly commissioned ₦8.52 billion Lameco Flyover in Osogbo developed structural faults less than a month after it was opened.
The 672-metre flyover, inaugurated on July 1, 2026, forms part of the state’s ₦100 billion multi-flyover infrastructure master plan aimed at improving transport links across Osogbo, Ile-Ife, Owode-Ede and Ikirun.
According to Channels Television, the affected section of the bridge was temporarily closed after a prolonged downpour caused part of the carriageway to sink and develop a depression.
Following an inspection of the site, Adeleke ordered immediate repairs and directed security agencies to strengthen surveillance around public infrastructure across the state.
The governor, who received a briefing from the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure, Bashiru Bello, said the damage was an act of vandalism intended to undermine his administration’s developmental efforts.
He condemned those responsible, describing them as saboteurs seeking to destroy projects funded with taxpayers’ money, and urged security agencies to identify, arrest and prosecute those behind the incident.
Adeleke also praised engineers from the Ministry of Works for their swift response in carrying out emergency repairs, stressing that his administration remained committed to delivering quality infrastructure despite attempts to frustrate its efforts.
The incident has triggered political controversy between the state government and opposition figures ahead of the Osun State governorship election scheduled for August 15, 2026.
