APC chieftain applauds Tinubu over rescue of 176 abducted Kwara victims

An All Progressives Congress chieftain in Kano State, Musa Kwankwaso, has commended President Bola Tinubu following the rescue of 176 abducted residents of Woro and Nuku communities in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State.

 

According to a statement issued by Kwankwaso on Thursday, the successful operation demonstrates the Federal Government’s commitment to tackling insecurity across the country.

The 176 residents were abducted on February 3, 2026, and spent nearly six months in captivity before being rescued by the Nigerian military.

Kwankwaso, who serves as Director of Finance at the Hadejia Jama’are River Basin Development Authority, said the operation ended months of anguish for the victims and their families.

The Kwara State Government had announced the rescue on Wednesday through its official Facebook page, describing it as a major breakthrough. It also commended President Tinubu, security agencies and all those involved in the operation.

Kwankwaso urged opposition politicians to acknowledge progress made in addressing the country’s security challenges whenever significant breakthroughs occur.

He also praised the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, the Ministers of Defence and the Service Chiefs for their roles in securing the victims’ release, expressing confidence that Nigeria’s security situation would continue to improve.

The APC chieftain further said he believed Northern voters would support President Tinubu’s bid for a second term in the 2027 general election, citing what he described as the administration’s achievements.

The government also reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening national security, improving public safety and creating an environment where citizens can live and work with confidence. Tinubu to Address Nigerians President Bola Tinubu is expected to deliver a nationwide broadcast on Thursday as part of activities marking the 66th Independence Anniversary. The President returned to Lagos on Tuesday after concluding his working vacation in Europe and is expected to spend the Independence celebrations in the state. He is also expected to attend the premiere of a documentary on the late businessman and politician, Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola, at the Wole Soyinka National Theatre in Lagos. According to the Presidency, Tinubu is further expected to hold political meetings in Lagos as preparations for the 2027 general elections continue. Nigeria at 66 Nigeria gained independence from British colonial rule on October 1, 1960, with Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa becoming the country’s first Prime Minister. The country became a republic in 1963, with Nnamdi Azikiwe serving as its first President. Nigeria later experienced periods of military rule and the Civil War before returning to constitutional democracy in 1999. The 2026 anniversary marks 66 years since independence and 27 years of uninterrupted constitutional democracy.
