Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have dismantled an alleged baby factory in Abaren Village, Mowe, rescuing two pregnant women and four children.   The operation was conducted on August 24 by officers of the Mowe Division following sustained intelligence about alleged human trafficking and illegal adoption activities at the facility. According to the police spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, six suspects were arrested during the operation. They were identified as Florence Ogbona, 58; Magdalene Julius, 63; Chidike Egwuonwu, 40; Onyechu Chidike, 35; Stephen Ogbona, 39; and an attending nurse, Oseni Idaya. The two pregnant women rescued from the facility were identified as 23-year-old Ilesanmi Foluke, who was seven months pregnant, and 20-year-old Ejekwa Melody, who was eight months pregnant. Four children, comprising two boys and two girls, were also recovered from the location. The police said further investigation led officers to a hospital within the Mowe axis, where another alleged victim, 26-year-old Blessing Bright Effiong, had given birth to a baby boy on August 20. However, the whereabouts of the newborn could not be established while Effiong was receiving medical care. The attending nurse was subsequently arrested as police intensified efforts to locate the missing infant. The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation, including determining the full extent of the alleged syndicate’s activities and prosecuting suspects found culpable. Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, commended the Mowe Division officers and reaffirmed the command’s commitment to combating human trafficking, child trading and other violent crimes across the state. The Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC), through its affiliate, the Hotel and Personal Service Senior Staff Association, has picketed the Abuja Continental Hotel over alleged unfair labour practices, poor working conditions and restrictions on workers’ freedom of association.   The union commenced the picketing on Monday, August 24, 2026, amid a dispute over the unionisation of hotel workers and other labour-related demands. According to Channels Television, the union said repeated efforts to meet with the hotel management to address its concerns had been unsuccessful. The protesters blocked the entrance to the hotel as they pressed their demands. At the time of filing the report, union members were also attempting to lock the hotel gate, but the move was resisted by police officers and some hotel officials. The union’s grievances include what it described as indecent working conditions, alleged unfair labour practices and concerns over workers’ right to organise and freely associate with trade unions. Other reports said the workers gathered at the hotel from the early hours of Monday and commenced the picketing after access to the premises was restricted. Security personnel, including police officers, were deployed to the scene as the protest continued. TUC officials maintained that the industrial action followed unsuccessful attempts to resolve the dispute through dialogue. The hotel management had not issued a public response to the allegations contained in the reports at the time of filing. The claims by the union therefore remain allegations pending any response from the management. The picketing has affected access to the hotel as the union continues to demand action on the issues surrounding workers’ welfare, unionisation and freedom of association.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has introduced a new system allowing candidates to have their O’Level results verified directly with the examination bodies that issued them.   JAMB spokesperson Fabian Benjamin announced the development on Monday, August 24, 2026, saying the process will initially begin with the West African Examinations Council (WAEC). Under the new arrangement, candidates can upload their O’Level results from home while JAMB verifies the results directly against records held by the relevant examination body. According to Benjamin, the initiative is designed to make JAMB services faster, safer and more convenient while reducing the need for candidates to visit Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres. He said the system will also address problems associated with manual result uploads, including misplaced documents, incorrect subject or grade entries, and the submission of unverified or fraudulent results. The new system integrates JAMB’s e-Facility platform with examination bodies, enabling results to be checked against official records before being uploaded to a candidate’s profile. How to Verify and Upload O’Level Results Candidates are required to first purchase a result verification code by visiting the official result verification platform and completing the following steps: 1. Enter their National Identification Number (NIN) and verify it. 2. Select the number of O’Level sittings and examination body or bodies. 3. Provide an email address and GSM number. 4. Make payment using a debit card or bank transfer. 5. Enter examination details, including examination number, series and year. 6. Verify the result and obtain a Verification Code. 7. Send “VERIFY” followed by the Verification Code to 55019 or 66019. 8. Candidates with two sittings should log into their JAMB e-Facility profile when notified. 9. Select “2026 UTME O’Level Upload”. 10. Enter the Verification Code and review the verified results displayed. 11. Select between five and nine required subjects, ensuring no subject is selected more than once. 12. Click “Apply the O’Level Results” to complete the upload.   JAMB said candidates will receive a notification after a successful submission. Benjamin added that the initiative reflects Registrar Prof. Segun Aina’s drive to make JAMB’s services more technology-driven and candidate-focused.

The Sokoto State Government has donated more than ₦100 million and 408 bags of assorted food items to families affected by banditry and a boat accident in parts of the state.   The assistance was delivered during condolence visits to Dinawa, Birjingo and Gorau communities in Wurno and Goronyo Local Government Areas by a government delegation led by the state All Progressives Congress (APC) leader, Senator Aliyu Wamakko. The five injured victims were given ₦250,000 each, alongside one bag each of rice, millet and maize. In Birjingo, the families of three deceased victims also received ₦1 million each, as well as two bags each of maize and millet and one bag of rice. Six injured victims received ₦250,000 each and one bag each of rice, millet and maize. In Gorau, families of the 65 people reported to have died in the boat accident received ₦1 million each, together with two bags each of maize and millet and one bag of rice. Wamakko, who conveyed Governor Ahmed Aliyu’s condolences, described the incidents as unfortunate and prayed for the prevention of similar tragedies. He also said the state government had continued to support security agencies in efforts to improve security across Sokoto. The boat accident occurred after a vessel carrying 77 passengers, including farmers, women and children, reportedly capsized shortly after leaving Gorau community last Thursday. The Sokoto State Police Command initially confirmed that 46 bodies had been recovered, while 15 passengers were rescued alive.
