According to Punch Newspaper, Yusuf Buhari, son of late former President Muhammadu Buhari, has secured the All Progressives Congress House of Representatives ticket for the Sandamu/Daura/Mai’adua Federal Constituency ahead of the 2027 general election.

The primary election held on Saturday across the three local government areas saw Yusuf Buhari record a decisive victory, polling 6,386 votes. His closest challenger, Auwal Daura, received 322 votes.

Party officials said the exercise took place peacefully, with accredited delegates voting across Sandamu, Daura and Mai’adua. The constituency has 21,855 registered voters, while 6,837 delegates were accredited for the primary. A total of 6,708 votes were cast.

A supervising official identified as Ibrahim described the process as transparent, saying the result reflected the choice of party members in the constituency.

The victory has stirred political discussions within the Daura axis, long regarded as a stronghold of the Buhari family. Yusuf’s large margin of victory is being viewed as a sign that the family’s political influence remains strong in the area.

Yusuf Buhari had not publicly reacted to the result at the time Punch filed its report, but supporters and APC members reportedly celebrated shortly after the announcement.

He is now expected to contest the constituency seat under the APC in the 2027 general election.
