According to Punch Newspaper, Yusuf Buhari, son of late former President Muhammadu Buhari, has secured the All Progressives Congress House of Representatives ticket for the Sandamu/Daura/Mai’adua Federal Constituency ahead of the 2027 general election.   The primary election held on Saturday across the three local government areas saw Yusuf Buhari record a decisive victory, polling 6,386 votes. His closest challenger, Auwal Daura, received 322 votes. Party officials said the exercise took place peacefully, with accredited delegates voting across Sandamu, Daura and Mai’adua. The constituency has 21,855 registered voters, while 6,837 delegates were accredited for the primary. A total of 6,708 votes were cast.   A supervising official identified as Ibrahim described the process as transparent, saying the result reflected the choice of party members in the constituency.   The victory has stirred political discussions within the Daura axis, long regarded as a stronghold of the Buhari family. Yusuf’s large margin of victory is being viewed as a sign that the family’s political influence remains strong in the area.   Yusuf Buhari had not publicly reacted to the result at the time Punch filed its report, but supporters and APC members reportedly celebrated shortly after the announcement.   He is now expected to contest the constituency seat under the APC in the 2027 general election.

Popular socialite and businessman Cubana Chief Priest has lost the All Progressives Congress ticket to contest for the House of Representatives seat for Orsu, Orlu and Oru East Federal Constituency in Imo State.   The celebrity businessman was defeated during the APC primary election by incumbent lawmaker Omeogo Canice Moore Nwachukwu, who retained the party’s ticket for the constituency ahead of the 2027 general election.   Cubana Chief Priest, known for his prominence in Nigeria’s nightlife and entertainment circles, had recently announced plans to enter active politics. His ambition attracted widespread attention, particularly in the South-East, where his popularity and youth outreach campaigns had boosted his profile.   The socialite had formally purchased the APC nomination and expression of interest forms to seek the federal seat. He said his decision to run was driven by a desire to promote youth empowerment and grassroots development across the constituency.   He is also recognised as the coordinator of the South-East City Boy Movement, a political support group linked to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.   The APC primary outcome ends, for now, Cubana Chief Priest’s bid to secure elective office, while Canice Nwachukwu moves forward as the party’s candidate for the federal constituency race in 2027.  

A Nigerian court has ordered the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) to seal the operations of Coscharis Motors after the company allegedly failed to comply with directives linked to the sale of a defective Range Rover vehicle to a customer. According to TheCable, the ruling followed a legal dispute in which the customer accused the luxury automobile dealer of supplying a faulty Range Rover and failing to provide satisfactory remedies. The court reportedly directed the FCCPC to enforce compliance by shutting down the company’s premises until the matter is resolved. The judgment is seen as another major test of consumer protection enforcement in Nigeria’s automobile sector. The FCCPC has increasingly intensified actions against companies accused of violating consumer rights in recent years. Earlier cases involved sanctions and enforcement actions against firms in sectors including pay television and real estate. Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission has not publicly released full details of the enforcement process at the time of reporting.

US President Donald Trump has announced that Abu-Bilal al-Minuki, described as the global second-in-command of ISIS, was killed during a joint operation involving American and Nigerian forces in Africa. According to Reuters, Trump made the announcement on Friday through a post on Truth Social, saying the mission was “meticulously planned” and “very complex.” He claimed intelligence sources had tracked al-Minuki’s movements before the operation was carried out. Trump described al-Minuki as “the most active terrorist in the world” and said his death would significantly weaken ISIS’ global operations. He also thanked the Nigerian government and the Armed Forces of Nigeria for their cooperation in the operation. The exact location and timing of the mission were not disclosed. However, reports said al-Minuki was a Nigerian national and had been designated a global terrorist by the United States in 2023 over his senior role within ISIS operations in Africa, particularly around the Sahel and Lake Chad regions. Reuters noted that the United States has increased military cooperation with Nigeria in recent months, including intelligence support, training operations and drone deployments linked to counterterrorism efforts in West Africa. Nigerian authorities have previously maintained that US troops in the country operate mainly in advisory and non-combat roles. As of Saturday morning, Nigerian authorities had not publicly released a separate official statement confirming details of the operation.
