Edo Queens have secured a place in the CAF Women’s Champions League finals after winning the WAFU-B Women’s Champions League title in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.

The Nigerian champions defeated Ghanaian side Ampem Darkoa Ladies 4-1 on penalties after a thrilling 2-2 draw in regulation time.

Ampem Darkoa took the lead just two minutes into the match through Beline Nyarkoh, but Edo Queens responded almost immediately, with Doosuur Atume restoring parity two minutes later.

The Ghanaian champions regained the advantage in the 74th minute when Nyarkoh completed her brace.

Edo Queens refused to surrender, however, and Oluebube Umejiaku scored in the 94th minute to force the match into a penalty shootout.

Edo Queens converted four of their penalties, while Ampem Darkoa managed only one, sealing the regional championship and qualification for the CAF Women’s Champions League finals.

The WAFU-B triumph caps an impressive season for Edo Queens, who had already won the 2025/26 Nigeria Women’s Football League title.

They finished top of the league with nine points, ahead of Bayelsa Queens and Nasarawa Amazons, who both recorded eight points. It was the club’s second NWFL title in three years, following their maiden championship in 2024.

Atume Doorsuur also finished the domestic campaign as joint Golden Boot winner after scoring 13 goals, sharing the award with Rivers Angels striker Abasiofoh Uwah.

The club’s success has also received significant recognition from the Edo State Government.

Governor Monday Okpebholo rewarded the team with ₦50 million after the players returned with both the 2025/26 NWFL and 2026 WAFU-B trophies.

Speaking at the presentation ceremony at the Government House in Benin City, Okpebholo praised the players, coaching crew, technical team and officials for their resilience and determination.

“For me, this cup matters to Edo people, and it matters to the country,” the governor said, according to Channels Television, before announcing the ₦50 million reward.

Chairman of the Edo State Sports Commission, Amadin Enabulele, also praised the team, attributing its success to grit, unity, discipline and resilience.

With the WAFU-B title secured, Edo Queens now turn their attention to the CAF Women’s Champions League finals, where they will represent Nigeria and West Africa on the continental stage.

The achievement marks another significant step for a club that has rapidly established itself as one of Nigeria’s leading women’s football teams.
