French President Emmanuel Macron has announced the immediate deployment of 85 specialist rescue workers to Venezuela following the devastating twin earthquakes that struck the South American nation.
According to Channels Television, citing AFP, Macron said the French rescue team would assist emergency operations in areas affected by the powerful earthquakes that have caused significant loss of life and widespread destruction.
In a message posted on X on Thursday, Macron said France was prepared to support the Venezuelan people alongside its European partners.
“France stands ready, together with its European partners, to provide assistance to the affected populations in response to the needs expressed by the Venezuelan authorities,” he said.
The French leader added that the 85 rescuers, who specialise in search operations and debris clearance, would be deployed immediately to aid ongoing rescue efforts.
The announcement comes as international support continues to grow following the disaster. Earlier reports indicated that at least 32 people had died and more than 700 were injured after two powerful earthquakes struck Venezuela. However, subsequent official updates have suggested the death toll has risen significantly.
Rescue teams have been working around the clock to locate survivors trapped beneath collapsed buildings, while governments and humanitarian organisations worldwide have pledged assistance.
France joins a growing list of countries offering support to Venezuela as authorities continue to assess the full scale of the destruction and coordinate relief efforts.
Channels Television reported that the deployment forms part of a broader international response aimed at helping affected communities recover from one of the country’s deadliest natural disasters in recent years.
