Two powerful earthquakes that struck Venezuela on June 24 have triggered an outpouring of international support, with governments across the Americas and Europe offering humanitarian aid, rescue teams and medical assistance after the disaster killed at least 32 people and injured more than 700.

According to Channels Television, citing AFP, the twin quakes measuring 7.2 and 7.5 magnitude struck the same region of Venezuela, causing widespread destruction, building collapses and a growing humanitarian emergency.

US Pledges Immediate Support

Donald Trump said the United States was prepared to assist Venezuela following the disaster.

In a message posted on Truth Social, Trump described the earthquakes as “massive in scale” and said he had instructed US government agencies to prepare for a rapid response.

He added that the United States stood “ready, willing, and able to help”.

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum announced that emergency aid was being prepared, including specialist rescue and medical personnel requested by Venezuelan authorities.

Meanwhile, El Salvador’s President Nayib Bukele said 300 rescuers, paramedics and 50 tonnes of equipment, medicines and essential supplies were ready for deployment to Caracas.

Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva expressed concern over the tragedy and reaffirmed Brazil’s commitment to helping recovery efforts in affected areas.

Cuba Mobilises Medical Personnel

Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla conveyed condolences to the Venezuelan government and people, noting that Cuban health workers already in the country had been fully mobilised to provide medical care to victims.

Argentina, Chile and Uruguay Express Solidarity

Argentina’s government said it was closely monitoring developments and stood ready to provide humanitarian assistance through international organisations. President Javier Milei extended solidarity to the Venezuelan people despite political differences between the two governments.

Uruguayan President Yamandú Orsi said his country was willing to assist in any capacity requested by Venezuelan authorities.

Chile’s foreign ministry also expressed solidarity and indicated readiness to provide humanitarian and rescue support if needed.

Ecuador and Costa Rica Join Relief Efforts

Ecuadorian President Daniel Noboa ordered the immediate dispatch of humanitarian aid, saying humanitarian concerns should transcend political differences.

Costa Rica’s government issued a message of support to affected families and emergency responders, assuring Venezuelans they were not alone during the crisis.

Dominican Republic and Spain Offer Help

Dominican President Luis Abinader said specialised search-and-rescue teams had been placed on standby to support Venezuela’s emergency response.

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez also offered full support, extending condolences to victims and their families.

The international response comes as Venezuelan authorities continue rescue operations and assess the full extent of the damage caused by the twin earthquakes, which have left thousands affected across several communities.
