Former Kogi State Governor, Ibrahim Idris, has died in the United Kingdom at the age of 77.
Idris reportedly died on Sunday, September 20, 2026, according to a report by PUNCH Newspapers.
Following his death, Kogi State Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, former Governor Yahaya Bello, Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs Abdullahi Bello and other government officials visited the late former governor’s residence in Abuja to condole with his family.
The visit was disclosed by Onogwu Muhammed, Special Adviser to Governor Ododo on Public Relations and Chief Press Secretary to former Governor Yahaya Bello, in a Facebook post on Sunday.
Idris served as governor of Kogi State from May 2003 to January 2012. He won a second term in office after the 2007 election and was succeeded by Idris Wada in January 2012.
The circumstances surrounding his death were not immediately disclosed.
Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central, also mourned the former governor, describing him as a significant figure in the political history of Kogi State and the Peoples Democratic Party.
The former governor’s death comes as tributes continue to be paid by political figures and government officials who visited his family in Abuja.
