Healthcare workers in Katsina State have issued the state government a 21-day ultimatum to address outstanding welfare and professional demands or face an indefinite statewide strike.
The Assembly of Healthcare Professionals in Katsina State (AHAPN) announced the ultimatum on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, during a press conference at the State Secretariat of the Medical and Health Workers’ Union of Nigeria (MHWUN) in Katsina.
According to the group, the ultimatum follows what it described as the government’s prolonged failure to implement agreed welfare and professional entitlements despite several engagements and representations.
AHAPN comprises the Medical and Health Workers’ Union of Nigeria (MHWUN), National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM), and Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria (AMLSN).
Speaking to journalists, AHAPN State Chairman, Comrade Ibrahim Balange, said the unresolved issues had negatively affected the morale, motivation and productivity of healthcare professionals across the state.
Key demands
Among the workers’ demands is the immediate implementation of 100 per cent CONHESS, in line with what they said is obtainable in federal health institutions.
They are also demanding the implementation of the skipping of CONHESS 10, in accordance with existing circulars, as well as an upward review of the 10 per cent hazard allowance to bring it in line with federal standards.
The workers further want increases in several allowances, including call duty, shift duty, clinical and non-clinical allowances, rural allowances and specialist allowances.
They are also demanding that the uniform allowance for nurses be increased to ₦80,000, citing the amount obtainable in federal health institutions.
Balange described the demands as fair and necessary for improving the welfare of healthcare professionals and strengthening healthcare delivery in Katsina State.
He warned that if the government fails to resolve the issues before the 21-day deadline expires, the assembly, which represents virtually all healthcare workers in the state except medical doctors, will have no alternative but to commence a statewide strike.
The group said it remained hopeful that the Katsina State Government would act before the deadline to prevent disruption of healthcare services.
